How can Acupuncture help me?
Acupuncture assists natural healing, helping people recover from pain or dis-ease in the body, mind, and spirit. Physical injuries or stress can lead to musculo-skeletal, digestive, respiratory, or women’s gynecological issues, which can be treated with Acupuncture. Treatment can promote recuperative power and immunity, support physical and emotional health, and improve overall function and well-being.
Acupuncture is somewhat new in the United States, but has been practiced in Asia for over 2,500 years. At the heart of this ancient medicine is the philosophy that a person's health is affected by the quality, quantity and balance of Qi, or Life Energy, that flows along channels called meridians. Acupuncture works my promoting the flow of Qi, which can become unbalanced or blocked by physical or emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, overexertion, diet or seasonal changes. Healing begins by reducing pain, replenishing energy, reducing and alleviating symptoms and decreasing stress, creating a greater sense of physical ease and harmony.
How is Joan’s treatment unique?
Each individual is unique. At Towards Harmony Acupuncture, Joan's intention is to form a cooperative exchange with her clients. The object is for the client to be truly heard and understood--their concerns, their history, their values and their goals. This communication helps her to design an individualized treatment to address both individual symptoms of discomfort and dis-ease and their root causes, and to facilitate the natural healing process.
Joan's practice specializes in musculo-skeletal pain, stress and emotional symptoms such as anxiety and depression, digestive issues, and women's gynecological issues and menopausal transitions. Her practice includes counseling in lifestyle, exercise and meditation, and nutrition to support changes the client would like to make in their daily living practices.
What inspired Joan to become an Acupuncturist?
Joan has been a compassionate and caring healthcare practitioner for more than 25 years. She began her practice as an Occupational Therapist, focusing on rehabilitation. She has studied various other forms of holistic healing and was most inspired with Acupressure and Acupuncture studies since these treatments were so helpful to her personally. Towards Harmony Acupuncture started in 2005 as Jin Shin Do Acupressure®. Upon completion of her Master's degree in 2008, Acupuncture was added to the practice.
Joan is grateful for having had the guidance of a number of wonderful teachers in Iyengar yoga, Meditation, Tai Chi, Qigong, Alexander Technique, Jin Shin Do Acupressure®, Dances of Universal Peace, and Acupuncture. Her broad experience in both western and eastern healing modalities allows her to share these skills to benefit her Acupuncture clients.
